From product to packaging, we continue to reduce virgin-material use by repurposing recycled content. Here are just a few product examples we’ve engineered to help extend the life cycle of materials and reduce waste:
- Scotch™ Cushion Lock™ Protective Wrap is created from 100% recycled paper and is recyclable.
- Scotch® Box Lock™ Paper Tape is made with 45% content from renewable resources and is recyclable with the box.
- Scotch® Magic™ Tape Made with 66% Plant Based Adhesive is a sticky tape that has 66% plant-based adhesive, 98% recycled plastic core and comes with 100% recycled plastic dispenser.

We have a long track record of reusing and recycling the by-products generated during the manufacturing of our products:
- Our 3M plant in Hutchinson, Minnesota continues to reuse and recycle the by-products generated during the manufacturing of Scotch® Magic™ Tape, Scotch® Painter’s Tapes and other 3M products.
- We’ve maintained our zero-waste-to-landfill status at our 3M plant in Cynthiana, Kentucky where our Scotch® Packaging Tapes are proudly manufactured.

Recyclable Ready by 2030
Recyclable Packaging
We are working toward having 100% of our packaging to reusable or recyclable by 2030.
Our Masking Tapes sold in Europe are a great example of how we’ve started to transition our tape packaging to plastic-free and recyclable materials. It’s being rolled out across carpet, duct, mounting and masking tapes throughout Europe and is expected to reduce our plastic use by 17 tons annually.
